As we celebrate the 4th of July this week, our hearts naturally turn to thoughts of freedom and independence. We think about fireworks, family gatherings, and our nation's history. But more than anything, this holiday gives us a powerful reminder of the true freedom we have, not just as citizens of a country, but as children of the living God.
The Statue of Liberty has stood for almost 150 years as a symbol of liberty, but the freedom we have in Jesus will stand for all eternity. He didn’t come to simply improve our lives, He came to set us free!!!
Galatians 5:1 - Stand fast therefore in the liberty by which Christ has made us free, and do not be entangled again with a yoke of bondage.
Paul’s words to the church in Galatia were strong and clear: Don’t go back into bondage! Jesus didn’t die so we could live weighed down by fear, shame, sin, or guilt. He died and rose again so that we could live in real freedom, the kind that comes from knowing who we are.
Here’s the truth: fear enslaves and traps us, negative habits can control us, BUT Jesus breaks every chain.
True freedom can only be found in Christ, extending beyond this earthly life. John 8:36 says, "So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed." When we believe in Christ, we gain access to the truth that sets us free (John 8:32).
That means our freedom isn’t based on how we feel or what’s happening around us; it’s based on what Jesus already did on the cross. And when you know that, you can live in victory. You can resist temptation, silence the lies of the enemy, and walk forward in confidence.
God's plan for our lives is to live in the liberty Jesus provided through His sacrifice on the cross. So, when things in life try to enslave us, such as habits, sin, worry, fear, or doubt, we resist them, knowing that God desires our freedom and has made a way through Jesus. We remind ourselves that Jesus has set us free, and we are encouraged to resist the enemy's schemes as outlined in the Word of God.
James 4:7 - Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you.
Today, declare freedom over your life.
Over your thoughts.
Over your emotions.
Over your habits.
Try saying this out loud:
“In the name of Jesus, I am free! I am not bound by fear, sin, worry, or doubt. I resist the enemy and walk in the freedom Jesus paid for!”
You are not partially free. You are not hopefully free. You are unquestionably free.
Let that truth sink deep into your heart today.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank you for sending Jesus so we could be free. He willingly paid the price of our sins so that we could be set free. Father, I pray that you would open my eyes to the freedoms that belong to me in Christ and help me to walk and live in the liberty that comes with it. Thank you, that I am unquestionably free in Jesus’ name. Amen.
