Did you ever get up in the morning or maybe come home after an extra-long day at work and feel, really, hungry? Just like your physical body craves food when it’s hungry, your spirit man needs the Word of God to be strong. The Apostle Paul writes to the church at Corinth and compares it to physical food.
1 Corinthians 3:1-2 - And I, brethren, could not speak to you as to spiritual people but as to carnal, as to babes in Christ. I fed you with milk and not with solid food; for until now you were not able to receive it, and even now you are still not able;
We need to fill ourselves up spiritually every day. You can’t skip meals and expect to remain physically strong. When you eat food, it strengthens your physical body. The same is true spiritually; the Word gives strength to your spirit man. You need a daily infusion of it, spending time in His presence and allowing Him to fill you up.
Consider how much time we spend preparing and eating food daily, or choosing a restaurant. We go to the store to buy ingredients, follow a recipe, and take time to prepare and cook food properly to ensure that it is flavorful and appetizing. Shouldn’t we be doing the same spiritually? Some people might have one small snack a week and then wonder why they are unsuccessful in their spiritual walk.
People often try to satisfy their hunger with things that have no nutritional value, such as junk food, and it can leave you wanting more, craving real food. The same is true in your spiritual life; only the Word can satisfy your spirit man. When Jesus taught His disciples to pray, He said, "Give us this day our daily bread” (Matthew 6:11), is not just about filling our stomachs with food, but meeting all our needs. To do this, you need the Word of God in your life every day.
Psalm 68:19 - Blessed be the Lord, who daily loads us with benefits, The God of our salvation! Selah
He loads us with benefits daily, but how does He do that? He reminds us of who we are and who He is, in the Word. Your soul and spirit will be satisfied when you partake of it daily.
Let God satisfy your spiritual hunger with His Word. It will cause you to grow spiritually and direct, lead, and guide your life into a good place. Feast on His word every day!
Prayer: Heavenly Father, help me feed my spirit with the Word of God every day. Help me see the value of taking time in your presence. Help me fill my mind and heart with your thoughts, and grow spiritually so I can help others. In Jesus' name, I pray, amen.
