Deuteronomy 4:31 - (for the Lord your God is a merciful God), He will not forsake you nor destroy you, nor forget the covenant of your fathers which He swore to them.

We often use familiar terms to describe God; we call him Savior, Provider, Love, and so on. Here we see that He is described as merciful.  What exactly is the mercy of God? Mercy speaks of a protective love or to bestow favor upon.

Many people confuse mercy with compassion. When someone is in need, you can be moved with compassion for them and their need. Mercy is not only seeing a need and being compassionate; mercy fills the need.  Mercy can be extended to someone even if the trouble they are in is of their own doing.

Maybe life is difficult right now, and you have made some wrong choices, leaving you feeling like there is no way out. But God wants to show us mercy.

You never have to be without hope; you can always call out for the mercy of God. God desires to show us His mercy.  He is not just trying to show mercy, He is mercy!  Mercy is part of God’s nature.

Psalm 145:8-9 - The Lord is gracious and full of compassion, Slow to anger and great in mercy. The Lord is good to all, And His tender mercies are over all His works.

God has an intense desire to meet people's needs, even if those needs were brought about by their own doing or fault.  Many people walk around with feelings of guilt, shame, and unworthiness. They say, "How can I ask God for help when I have gotten my life in such a mess?" That is the whole idea of mercy: receiving something that you did not deserve.

So what does God's mercy do for us? Knowing about the mercy of God gives you hope upon which faith is built. You need hope to have faith.  If something is lacking in your life, the mercy of God is there for you.

It's like a safety net under the wire of life. After you have exhausted all that you know to do, there is still the mercy of God.  It can make up the difference in what you are lacking; believe and ask for it!

Mercy can override any boundary in your life! God desires to meet your needs. Ask the Lord to be merciful to you. Believe that He is a God of His Word and will do what He says.

Hebrews 4:16 - Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need.

You don't ever have to get to a place where you are at the end of your rope; there's always the mercy of God.  You have never gone too far that His mercy can't reach you.  Call out to God today and ask Him to be merciful to you. He will come and rescue you from your troubles.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, I thank you that you are merciful.  You delight in showing it to me. I thank you for your mercy upon my life. You lift me up from my troubles and rescue me. You are a merciful God!
