Before Disney made “Let It Go” famous, God had already given us this powerful lesson in His Word.

Ephesians 4:31-32 – Let all bitterness, wrath, anger, clamor, and evil speaking be put away from you, with all malice. And be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God in Christ forgave you.

Paul instructed the church in Ephesus to “let it go!” Okay, let what go? This passage is clear: Release anger, bitterness, and harmful words. These things don’t just weigh us down; they hinder our spiritual growth and keep us from experiencing the fullness of God’s plan. When you refuse to “let it go,” your heart hardens toward God and others. You become desensitized to His voice, making it harder to receive His guidance. A heart filled with resentment and unforgiveness struggles to discern His leading.

God’s Word calls us to release harmful emotions and thoughts. These instructions aren’t just words on a page; they are meant to be applied to our lives. But while God tells us what to let go of, He also tells us what to hold on to—kindness, tenderness, and forgiveness. Instead of harboring bitterness, we are called to reflect the love and grace that God has shown us.

That’s why His Word repeatedly instructs us to “let it go” and embrace the things that truly matter. These aren’t just nice suggestions; they are essential to living a life that honors Him.

James 1:22 – But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves.
Be a doer of the Word. God speaks to us all, something from the list jumped out at you. If God says to let it go of something then do it! Holding onto grudges and negativity only harms you. If you feel stuck spiritually or confused, ask yourself: Have I truly let  __________________ go?

Check your heart. Make sure you are right before God. If you need to forgive someone, do it. If bitterness or anger has crept in, let it go. Choose kindness, tenderness, and forgiveness.
Remind yourself of the truth in God’s Word:

  • You are saved.
  • You are born of God to overcome.
  • You are forgiven—so let go of unforgiveness, anger, bitterness, etc!!

Don’t live life with a hardened heart. Let it go and allow God’s peace to fill your life. 1 John 1:9 – If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. God is faithful to forgive you when you let it go!

Prayer: Heavenly Father, help me today to let go of those things that are not from You! I choose to release bitterness, anger, and unforgiveness. Fill my heart with kindness and compassion. I am a doer of Your Word, and I thank You for helping me let go of negative emotions and thoughts every day. In Jesus' name, Amen.
